Washington, D.C. – The Blue Dog Coalition PAC announced today that is has endorsed former U.S. Representative Nick Lampson in Texas’s 14th Congressional District.
“Nick Lampson has a strong record of standing up for Blue Dog principles in Congress,” Rep. Jim Matheson (D-UT) Co-Chair of the Blue Dog PAC said. “As a Blue Dog in the 110th Congress, Nick worked with us rein in federal spending and to reduce the national debt. The Blue Dogs look forward to working with Nick Lampson again to bring fiscal discipline to the federal government in the years ahead.”
Lampson was first elected to Congress in 1996 and represented the 9th District for four terms before seeing the district radically gerrymandered in redistricting. He was re-elected to the House in 2006 to represent Texas’s 22nd District, defeating Rep. Tom DeLay.
“Nick Lampson has always been a strong voice for fiscal responsibility and honoring our nation’s commitment to our veterans,” said Rep. Dennis Cardoza, co-chair of the Blue Dog PAC. “He has fought tirelessly to improve healthcare, expand educational opportunities, and provide tax relief for our veterans. The Blue Dogs are excited to have Nick’s voice with us again in the next Congress fighting for our veterans and to put America back on a fiscally responsible path.”
“The Blue Dog Coalition represents the future in Congress as we struggle to break the gridlock, which has stifled any effort to solve the problems of our great nation,” Lampson said. “The Blue Dogs represent our coming together in the vital center of the political spectrum proving that we can do better when we work together. I am honored to receive their endorsement. I look forward to working with them to get our fiscal house in order.”
Lampson is the eighth candidate endorsed for the 2012 election cycle by the coalition of moderate and conservative Democrats.
The Blue Dogs expect to announce more endorsements in the coming weeks.
